Art Deco (or Art Moderne) was a very popular style in the 20's and 30's but wasn't actually termed Art Deco until the 1960's, deriving its name from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs Industriels et Modernes. It is an elegant style of cool sophistication and is seen in architecture and the applied arts of the period, which ranged from luxurious objects made from exotic material to mass produced, streamlined items available to a growing style conscious middle class.
The sculptures in bronze and ivory by Chiparus, Preiss and Lorenzl, the exquisite glass of Rene Lalique, the English Odeon cinemas of the 1930's, New York's Skyscrapers, Miami's hotels and the "Hollywood look" of the period; all of these typify the various styles and movements that come under the umbrella term of "Art Deco".
Art Deco is a sexy and glamorous style that perfectly compliments today's modern interiors making it as popular as it has ever been, and Anthony's Diamonds is Southern Spains only specialist in Art Deco figures!
